Studio Policies
Lizzy Eichorn Studios/Monterey Clay Studio - Studio Policies
At Monterey Clay Studio, our goal is to provide a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where participants are supported in achieving their goals in working with clay. In order to ensure a safe, enjoyable studio atmosphere for everyone, we appreciate your cooperation with the following:
Payment is required to reserve a space in a class. Please contact Lizzy about our sliding scale if you have financial need. If you pay a 50% deposit for an eight-week class, your remaining balance will be charged on the first business day of the second month of class.
Cancellations made within one week of session start will result in loss of payment. In the event of loss of a loved one or unforeseen major illness or injury, a refund minus a 5% service fee will be issued.
Refunds requested prior to one week before session start are subject to a 5% service fee.
Classes missed due to failure to attend, planned absences, or minor illnesses will not be refunded. If you miss a class you are welcome to ask if you can come to another class if space is available. No make up classes are guaranteed.
In the event of “acts of God” that prevent classes from being held, refunds and makeup classes are not guaranteed.
Classes start and end on time. Please do not show up more than 10 minutes before class starts. Work and cleanup must be completed in a timely manner. Please leave no later than 10 minutes past class end.
All unfired projects must be finished and placed on the greenware shelf by the end of class in Week 7 (no exceptions). If you are in a throwing class, that means that Week 6 is the last week to throw new work. Week 8 is glazing week. All of your pieces may not be ready to glaze by Week 8. You are welcome to come back to finish glazing during class times in the next session.
Clay purchased outside of Monterey Clay Studio must be approved by the studio manager prior to use in the studio.
Items over twelve inches in height or needing more than one kiln shelf will be fired if space is available and only when doing so will not interfere with the flow of other projects needing to be fired. Attempts will be made to fire large items. Additional firing fees may be required for approved large projects.
Monterey Clay Studio is a shared creative space where all members of our community are welcome. Participants are expected to share space and equipment fairly and respectfully which means cleaning up after oneself, using a reasonable amount of space, being thoughtful towards one another, and being flexible.
This studio has zero tolerance for any behavior which is discriminatory on grounds of age, race, sex, gender, social class, sexual orientation, ability, or any other factor.
Please note that using the pottery wheel requires some physical strength and control. We are happy to work with any physical, mental, or special condition but please reach out to us ahead of time if you have specific needs so we can make your experience more enjoyable.
Students are expected to manage their own ware at all stages of the process.
Sanding of projects and sweeping is not allowed in the studio to minimize hazards associated with clay dust. All cleaning will be performed with a sponge or mop.
Production potting and building is not allowed in the studio.
Participants are required to clean, dry, and organize all equipment after each use.
Participants will be held responsible for damage to facility or equipment if obvious negligence or improper use is the cause.
The outcome of every ceramic activity is contingent on many variables, Monterey Clay Studio/Lizzy Eichorn Studios is not responsible for any outcomes.
Hours of operation are posted and subject to change.
We reserve the right to change any and all policies with or without notice. All policies will be posted in a timely manner.
The studio is intended for use by adults 18 years or older. Students 12 years of age and older are welcome to participate in private classes or handbuilding workshops when an adult attends with them.
If studio policies are not followed, Monterey Clay Studio, Lizzy Eichorn Studios, and any teachers reserve the right to dismiss a student. No refund will be offered if this situation arises.
We hope you enjoy your time with us! Please let us know if we can do anything to improve your experience.
